Essay Title: Microgravity: The Sea Cucumber: The Key to Human Limb and Organ Regeneration
Teacher: Jennifer Seavey

What are you doing now?
I am a software developer in the Washington, D.C. area.

Where did you go to college and what was your major?
I graduated from the College of William and Mary with a degree in Computer Science.

What were some of your favorite memories from the competition or awards trip?
I remember becoming absorbed in reading science journals, trying to find the perfect topic for the essay. I eventually settled on the regeneration abilities of sea cucumbers and how this unique ability was being studied for its potential role in aiding amputees.

Do you think taking The DuPont Challenge was a meaningful experience?
Absolutely! Through the experience, I learned how to effectively write a science essay. As a woman in a STEM field, I look back on the supportive moments, like being a finalist in The DuPont Challenge, as catalysts for me being where I am today.

Why would you say science writing is important, and what role has it played in your life?
Science encourages us to continue exploring and learning about our world. My parents understood the importance of science, so from a young age they pushed me to be curious about the world around me. Now, as a software developer, I get to employ my science education every day!
